DANIEL W. SMITH

Areas of Practice
Dan’s practice focuses on all phases of litigation for family law including divorces, custody disputes, paternity determinations, child support modifications, contempt of court and adoptions. He also practices in the area of estate planning by assisting clients with Last Wills and Testaments as well as Trusts. Dan has represented clients before the Washington Court of Appeals and the Washington State Supreme Court.

Education
Graduated from the University of Northern Colorado, B.A. in 1977. Graduated in 1984 from the University of Puget Sound with a Doctor of Jurisprudence.

Professional Memberships
Dan is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Pierce County Bar Association and the Family Law Sections of both the local and state bars. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. Dan serves as a Pro Tempore Court Commissioner on the bench of the Pierce County Superior Court hearing cases concerning family law matters, probates, collections, and domestic violence.

Personal
Dan and his wife Gwen reside in Puyallup. They have two children and two grandchildren. Gwen is retired from her career as a teacher with the Tacoma School District. Dan enjoys reading, skiing, running and outdoor activities with his family.
